(RBI) Reserve Bank of India has recently notified for recruitment to the post of RBI Assistant. The Selection will consist of three stages – Prelims online exam, Mains online exam and Interview. The prelims Online exam is scheduled on 23rd and 24th December(tentatively). #1. English Language Syllabus for RBI Assistant :
The English syllabus for RBI Assistant Prelims exam can be broadly divided into 4 parts – Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary and Verbal Ability
(1) Reading Comprehension
- Level: Moderate to Tough,
- Weightage: Max 10 marks min 7 marks
- Types of Questions : Most relevant topics for passage – Banking & Economy, Finance, Business, Monetary Policies like demonetization, Financial Policies, Socio-Financial Issues like poverty & education, Types of Banks in economy, Globalization, etc.
(2) Error Spotting/Phrase Replacement (grammar)
- Level: Moderate to Tough,
- Weightage: Max 10 marks & min 5 marks
- Types of Questions: Articles, Tenses, Prepositions, Parallelism, Subject Verb Agreement, Degrees of Comparison, Sentence Construction, Adverbs, Phrasal Verbs, Pronouns, Non-Finite Verbs, Common Errors, etc.
(3) Cloze Test
- Level: Moderate to Tough
- Weightage: If the RC comes for 7 marks
- Types of Questions: Moderate difficulty, the options will be easy but close to each other in meaning. You will have to look at the prepositions given in the option or before/after the blank contextually before answering. You may also be tested on phrasal verbs.
(4) Verbal Ability (Para Jumbles)
- Level: Easy, Low to Moderately
- Weightage: 5 Questions
- Question Types: Para Jumbles
(5) Vocabulary (Fill in the Blanks, Error Spotting, Phrase Replacement)
- Level: Moderate Difficulty
- Weightage: Max 10 marks & Min 5 marks,
- Question Types: Error Spotting, Phrase Replacement, Cloze Test (single passage with 5-10 questions), Fill in the Blanks (Double Blanks)
#2. Reasoning Ability Syllabus for RBI Assistant Prelims
(1) Coding-Decoding
Level: Moderate in Difficulty
Weightage: 4-10 Questions
Question Types: Coding by Letter Shifting, Coding by Analogy, Coding in Fictitious Language, Coding Letters of a Word.
(2) Arrangement & Pattern
Level: Easy to Moderate in difficulty
Weightage: 5-8 Questions
Question Types: Random Sequence of Alphabets (based on group of 5 terms each of 3 alphabets OR series of alphabets), Number Arrangements (based on group of 5 terms each of 3 digits OR series of numbers), Mixed Series Dictionary or Alphabet based Arrangements etc.
(3) Linear Seating Arrangement
Level: Moderate to Difficult
Weightage: 5-10 Questions
Question Types: Single or Double rows facing each other/ away from each other/ in the same direction. May be combined with other information to make it a Blood Relations or Double Lineup type problem as well.
(4) Circular Seating Arrangement
Level: Moderate to Difficult
Weightage: 0-5 Questions
Question Types: Uni- & Bi-directional problems on circular, square, rectangular, hexagonal tables. May be combined with other information to make it a Blood Relations or Double Lineup type problem as well.
(5) Analogy
Level: Easy to Moderate
Weightage: 0-5 Questions
Question Types: Meaning-based, Letter based, Number based.
(6) Classification
Level: Easy to Moderate
Weightage: 0-4 Questions
Question Types: Letter based, Meaningful Words based, GK based, Number based.
(7) Mathematical or Coded Inequalities
Level: Scoring,
Weightage: 5 Questions (likely of Coded Inequalities)
Question Types: Coded relations between letters to be decoded and solved.
(8) Order & Ranking
Level: Easy to Moderate in difficulty,
Weightage: 0-5 Questions
Question Types: Floor Based Puzzles, Arranging by age, height, weight, rank, order in row etc.
(9) Analytical Decision Making
Weightage: 0-5 Questions
Appears less frequently, Moderate to Difficult, Could be tricky, Moderate to Highly Time Consuming, Moderate to High Accuracy possible, Requires clean charting with proper technique and step-by-step solving.
(10) Syllogisms
Weightage: 0-5 Questions
Easy to Moderate in difficulty, Less time consuming, Moderate Accuracy possible, Very likely to appear.
Question Types: Direct questions with 2-3 statements & 2-3 conclusions, possibility based questions, negative information based questions.
(11) Data Sufficiency
Weightage: 0-5 Questions
Moderate Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming, Moderate Accuracy possible.
Question Types: Ordering & Ranking, Blood Relations, Coding in Fictitious Language, Circular Arrangements, Directions & Distances, Ages & Birthdates.
(12) Double Line-Up
Weightage: 0-5 Questions
Moderate to Difficult, Could be tricky, Moderate to Highly Time Consuming, Moderate Accuracy possible, Requires clean charting with proper technique and step-by-step solving. If scheduling is asked then double line up may not be asked. Vice-Versa

Question Types: Family Tree Problems, Coded Blood Relations.
(16) Verbal Reasoning
Weightage: 0-2 Questions
Statement & Assumptions problems asked in the past. But questions on Statement & Arguments, Statement & Inferences, Statement & Conclusions, Critical Reasoning, Course of Action and Cause & Effect also possible.
Question Types: Complete the Alphabet Series, Number Series and Mixed Series.
(17) Directions & Distances
Weightage: 2-3 Questions
Easy but could be tricky, Less time consuming, High Accuracy possible, Requires clean charting with proper technique and step-by-step solving.
Question Types: Based on distance covered or direction of motion
(18) Series
Weightage: 0-2 Questions
Level: Easy to Moderate, Less Time Consuming, Moderate to High Accuracy
Question Types: Complete the Alphabet Series, Number Series and Mixed Series.
#3. Numerical Ability Syllabus for RBI Assistant Prelims
(1) Simplification
Level: Easy to Solve
Weightage: 5-10 Questions
Question Types: BODMAS Rule, Approximation, Decimals, Fractions, Surds & Indices, Percentages etc.
(2) Data Interpretation
Level: Easy to Moderate in Difficulty
Weightage: 5-10 Questions (1-2 sets)
Question Types: Line Graphs, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Tables, Miscellaneous Infographics, Missing Data Type Caselets.
Concepts used from avergares, percentages, ratio & proportion, etc.
(3) Quadratic Equations
Level: Moderate, Moderately Time Consuming, Could be Tricky, High Accuracy Possible, Scoring,
Weightage: 0 or 5 questions
Question Type: comparing x and y based on the given information
(4) Number Series
Level: Scoring, Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming
Weightage: 3-5 Questions
Question Types: Complete the Series, Find the Missing Term, Find the Wrong Term etc.
(5) Average
Level: Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible
Weightage: 1-2 Questions
Question Types: Average Weight/Height/Age/Marks, Average Money Expenditure, Average Temperature etc. But the concept remains simple. We have to use a single formula i.e. Average = Sum of Quantities/Number of Quantities. Also very helpful in solving DI questions.
(6) Interest
Level: Scoring, Easy if Formulas & Proper Steps Followed, Moderately Time Consuming.
Weightage: 1-2 Questions
Question Types: Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Mixed Interest, Installments.
(5) Mensuration
Level: Easy to Moderate in Difficulty, You may have to use multiple concepts in a single problem, Moderately Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible,
Weightage: 1-2 Questions
Question Types: Perimeter and Area of 2D figures and Surface Area/Volume of 3D figures. Also, Moulding from one shape to another etc. Some questions might require you to use concepts of Percentages & Ratio and Proportion concepts.
(6) Percentage
Level: Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
Weightage: 0-1 Questions
Types of Questions: Calculation-oriented basic percentage. Will be extensively used in Profit and Loss, DI, etc.
(7) Ratio & Proportion
Weightage: 1-3 Questions
Level: Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible. Difficulty level may be raised by using multiple concepts.
You will find it useful in DI and Mixture Problems.
Question Types: Simple Ratios, Compound Ratios, Componendo and Dividendo, Direct & Indirect Proportions, Third Proportional and Fourth Proportional, Mean Proportional.
(8) Algebra
Level: Scoring, Easy if Concepts Clear and Steps Followed, Could be Tricky, Moderately Time Consuming.
Weightage: 2-3 Questions
Question Types: Linear Eqns in one or more variables, Problems on Ages, etc.
(9) Profit & Loss
Level: Scoring, Easy if Proper Steps Followed, Moderately Time Consuming.
Weightage: 2-3 Questions
Types of Question: Successive Selling type questions, Partnerships, Discount & MP, Dishonest Dealings.
(10) Time, Speed & Distance
Level: Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming
Weightage: 1-2 Questions
Types of Question: Average Speed, Boat & Stream, Problems on Train, Relative Speed.

(12) Time & Work
Level: Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming
Weightage: 1-2 Questions
Types of Questions: Work Efficiency, Pipes & Cisterns, Work & Wages, etc.
(14) Mixture Problems
Level: Tricky, Time Consuming, Less likely to appear in paper.
Weightage: 0-2 Questions
Types of Questions: Problems on making a mixture of two or more entities/mixture. Will involve knowledge of Ratio and Proportion
(15) Number System
Level: Could be tricky, Moderately time Consuming
Weightage: 0-1 Questions
Types of Questions: Divisibility & Remainder, Multiples & Factors, Integers, LCM & HCF.
(13) Permutation & Combination / Probability
Level: Moderately Time Consuming, Scoring, Easy if all cases considered.
Weightage: 0-1 Questions
Types of Questions: Basic Selection & Arrangement Problems, Basic problems on Probability.
